Who is Shatta Wale?

Shatta Wale (previously Bandana), [ Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr] is a Ghanaian singer, composer, and actor. He was born on October 17, 1984. For his best-known tune “Dancehall King,” he won Artiste of the Year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, and he has acted in films such as Never Say Never, The Trial of Shatta Wale, and Shattered Lives.

With his 2004 track “Moko Hoo,” which includes Tinny, he gained street recognition in a very nascent Ghanaian dancehall genre at the time. He was then known in the industry as Bandana, and the song garnered him a nomination for the Ghana Music Awards. After then, Bandana vanished for nearly a decade in the music circus before reinventing Himself in 2013. He started releasing Music under his new name Shatta Wale, under is Record Label (SH LABEL).

In 2014, he peaked at number 38 on E.tv’s “Top 100 Most Influential Ghanaian” Awards chart. And ever since then he has been appearing on the chart each year. He was ranked “Most Influential Musician” on social media in 2017. He won 8 awards at the 3music awards in 2019 and also the most awarded dancehall artist in Africa.
